Little Chinese Shoes (Little Chinese Windows)
Each of Louise's ‘Little Chinese Windows’ depicts a curated vignette of objects arranged as a still life image with image details layered over the top.
In this instance, a gorgeous little pair of lime green children’s silk shoes embroidered with birds and flowers edged in bright red cotton. They also have delicately embroidered insoles just as intricately decorated. The shoes sit on some dark blue vibrant silk bought from the Hong Kong Western Markets and over the top sit many pink fabric peonies from a traditional ‘Dong Bei’ Chinese pattern from the North East of China. Louise like to think that the fan and the small perfume bottle belong to the child’s mother.
