Hong Kong Neon
For this print, Louise had included not only the iconic Hong Kong neon signage but many other images. They include street furniture, food carts, fabrics, little pieces of haberdashery from Sham Shui Po in Hong Kong, her friend's beautiful tattoo, and even one of her son's T-shirts. All of the images are meticulously intertwined to create an artwork made from a riot of vibrant color, to convey the urban edginess of 'hip Hong Kong'.
Hong Kong's neon signage gained its fame in the '70s and soon became the symbol of this fast-paced city. Louise had included many famous neon signs such as Sammy's Kitchen and Mak Man Kee, a Michelin-starred restaurant famous for their wanton and duck egg noodles. It also features the prominent neon signs from Tsui Wah and Yung Kee restaurants, much-loved HK institutions.
Louise's highly detailed prints are a delight to explore and yield new discoveries on every perusal.
