Neon Enlightenment Series - Xiàn Sù Bào Pǔ
Xiàn Sù Bào Pǔ (見素抱樸), literally translates to "admire silk that has not been dyed and embrace wood that has not been carved". The idiom encourages us to maintain simplicity and reduce our desires for a lifestyle that is comfortable at heart.
Neon signs are a significant part of Hong Kong's culture and visual identity. Their eye-catching and captivating aesthetic is often used for commercial purposes, for instance in the case of shop signs.
The artist uses glaring neon signs to communicate and call attention to the wisdom of Chinese sayings, idioms, and seals.
