When it first emerged in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the white gourd-shaped vase was mostly fired in Jingdezhen, exclusively for the imperial family and aristocrats. Later on, it became widely adored among all classes of society for its elegant form and blessed meaning, making it the signature vase type since the Qing Dynasty.
