Rollie Porcelain Vase (Shu)

The designer’s inspiration for Rollie comes from the unintentional creative behaviors in our day-to-day life – try rolling up a long strip of paper into a cylinder and extruding the inner layers to create different shapes with merely our fingertips.

This simple process is not so different from the ceramics process of throwing and trimming; the former occurs in daily life, whereas the latter occurs in traditional craft. Rollie attempts to convey this conceptual similitude between the two. Spiral lines are strenuously engraved onto the porcelain vase using a special process to resemble the raw edges of the paper roll.

Each one is hand-drawn by the craftsmen in Jingdezhen and may vary slightly in size and texture, which keeps with Emotive Soil’s philosophy of paying homage to the humanistic aspect of the crafting process.
