Kyusu Oval Form (Japanese Teapot)
The artist learned technical skills of traditional ‘Kyusu’ making in Tokoname city, where it is renowned for the production of ceramic teapot. Most of her teapots are made on a potter’s wheel. Individual parts of clay are shaped and trimmed, assembled into the shape of a teapot, then polished before being fired in a kiln. After firing, the lid is adjusted to achieve precision and the surface of the whole pot is polished again to finalize the process. Strainer (Chakoshi) is especially important in her teapot making. Around 270 fine holes are made one by one, carefully by hand.At first glance, the design looks rather simple and made effortlessly. In fact, a higher level of uncompromising effort and time is required in order to make each of the works perfectly balanced so as to present exquisite minimalism. Both tradition and modernism are existing in her teapots. While using Japanese traditional techniques, its design and size are well-considered to suit modern lifestyle with her own artistic essence.L13.5 x W15.5 x H9 cm
