Hand-Woven Fish Carpet

Made with highly sought after Tibetan sheep wool, the Hand-Woven Fish Carpet tells the tale of Wangden, a remote valley in the Tsang province, once famous for its style of carpet weaving practiced nowhere else in Tibet. Wangden carpets were in great demand by monasteries from Lhasa to Amdo to Ladakh and were used as meditation mats by the Fifth Dalai Lama.

Every year, a new set of Wangden runners was woven for monks participating in the Great Monlam Prayer Festival in Lhasa, the first and largest religious gathering of the Tibetan Buddhist year.

This carpet is hand-tufted with naturally dyed sheep wool.
