Coiled Rope Coasters (Bhimal)
Bhimal (Grewia Optiva) is a common tree found in the lower Himalayas, usually used as cattle fodder by local tribes. The soft twigs of this tree are collected and woven into ropes (resembling jute ropes) by local women, which are in turn handcrafted into coil baskets, mats, bags, etc.
These coasters are especially handmade in Rishikesh under the gramotthan sanstha that aims to provide financial freedom to the local female population.
